OK... this one is for anything that you found totally sick or disgusting at the BX, shoppette, etc. I'm talkin sanitary issues, Maybe an employee that forgot to bathe, or some nasty sh!t laying around, or what have you. This thread was inspired by my little enounter with the Anthony's Pizza guy... I totally caught this dude diggin for nose gold, and it seriously looked like he was into it. Luckily I didn't even order yet, so I took my business elsewhere. Maybe I shoulda told someone, cuz that's f**kin gross, but I figured that my lunch time is precious to me, so I just went on about my business. Lesson for the managment: Look into what your folks do during their "bored" time. Anyone else got anything else like that?

Anyone who has been to the restrooms in the Vogelweh BX knows they smell like something crawled in there, took a lake sized piss on the floor, and died in it. I know people pee in there- but I swear it smells like they do it on the floors.
I also usually avoid the food courts in Germany entirely in the warmer months- as there are more flies than people in the place. The idea of installing window screens never occurred to AAFES to avoid being swarmed while trying to pick up some Baskin Robbins for my kids.

Well, I guess you can PARTIALLY blame the BX for the piss... I mean, it's surely the patrons' fault for having bad aim and/or not cleaning up after themselves, I mean, seriously we're too grown for that sh!t. But the flies are a different story...

Well, flies gather where there is something to feed on. The problem is that you are never going to find any retail facility with screens to keep the flying things out. Every time the doors open, they are going to get in and stay in.

I am not sure that fly strips would make things any better.

Something I've seen a lot of that seems to work pretty good is a door fan.  It mounts above the door and pushes a stream of air straight down, covering the opening.  It keeps out flies that aren't attached to someone...

almost all food facilites have them, although they all don't always work.  they have these sanitary bug catchers that are pleasant to the eye as well...no zapping noise either.  Bugs are everywhere, and when you can say there are none in your home, then you can talk smack about other places.  I used to work in entymology in the AF, and there is nothing you can really do, unless you want deadly chemicals on your food as well.

Oh, and as for the Pizza dude doing that....when I was a single airman, I have seen on more than one occasion this happen at the chow hall (sorry, I mean  dining facility).  Never can say I saw it at an AAFES facility though.  gross people are everywhere.

unless you have a backstage pass or secretly work there , you will not see it, they are only kept in the back.

If you are ever in Baumholder, stop by and check out the shithouse at Popeyes. It is the best diet plan I can advise. IT IS GERM HEAVEN. There is often no soap or hand towells and is heated like a sauna. The employees at Popeyes and Taco Bell use this and then prepare your food.   No Thank You!

You can't fault AAFES for Taco Bell... ALL TBs are awful, they have a nation-wide rep for making people sick. I swear, only 1 out of every 10 poeple I met actually like TB.

Here's one that might make you re-think your lunch plans.
Go into the men's room at the Anthonys Pizza & Lucky Kebap on Ramstein (near the bowling alley).  Look at the big sign that says "Employees must wash their hands before returning to work".  I'd like to know how they do that with no:

Hot water
Soap
paper towels

I wonder if the female restroom is the same?

Speaking of restrooms.....Anyone ever been to the bathrooms in the Food Court on Patch.  I won't allow my son to go in them.  I'll walk across the street to the Commisary and let him go there.  God forbid you actually want to wash your hands, not hot water, not soap, and nothing to dry your hands with.  NASTY!  I have never been in a clean AAFES bathroom.  Even the ones on Ramstein in the new BX are questionable.

The restroom at the Patch Shoppette/Gas Station/Class VI is just as bad. Every time I've gone near it it reeks to high holy heaven! I'm not blaming the people who work there, they're good people (as far as I know), but the restroom needs an exorcist, bleach, and mulitple doses of both.
