The #1 selling game system is no longer being ordered by AAFES. Why? I don't know...
However if you should like to buy an xbox, especailly overseas, you better have a PAL TV, and the right plugs for it, and plan to NOT take it back to the states with you.
AAFES is not ordering any more Xbox consoles... at least not until December when the 360 is released; which of course is going to cost an estimated 300-400 dollars.
They do not have a problem moving the standard xbox models- they sell out constantly... they are just not ordering anymore. Just... not.
So if your child was wanting one for an autumn birthday present- better sop ebay, or toys r us, or ebgames.com, and leave enough time for shipping. AAFES will no longer stock them. Bastards.

Update:

The launch of the xbox 360 has come and gone now and still AAFES here and germany has no Xbox 360s or original versions to buy for my son for X-mas.  Sad, Sad, Sad.

I don't blame my local Power Zone for this, this is someone higher up that thinks it would be a good idea not to carry any consoles for the 5 months leading up until Christmas. Even sadder.

Freud,

I ran PowerZone at my first store.  Here is the problem I had with all the consoles.  Most game consoles are frequently on back order.  So when and if you run out you wait for long periods of time before you can get more.  Sure there are more being made everyday but guess who gets most of the orders?  Yes, Wal-Mart.  Wal-Mart is the biggest buyer of everything so companies will sell to them first.  They are a sure bet.  AAFES, being a much smaller company,  has to get what they can.  They then divide what they have among all the stores.  Once they are sold, thats it until Microsoft, Sony or Nintendo decide to sell to us again.  In the mean time, you the customer are left with nothing.  It is pretty much out of our hands.

On the issue of not carrying anymore xboxes because of the release of the 360, If you have not had any original xboxes prior to the release of the 360 then you probally will never get any because there were none available to us to start with.

The only way AAFES might get any older versions is if some outside distributor decides they want to get rid of their overstock because of the new release of the 360 and wholesale them to us at a discount.  This would translate to savings for you since we bought them cheaper.  I doubt if this will happen because Wal-Mart would probally buy them frst and display them with a little bouncing smiley face price cut thingie...

An interesting note about Wal-Mart:

While in college, one of my professors had previously worked as an accountant for a company in New York that made Silverware.  They sold mostly to local companies in the North East.  Wal-Mart came along and started purchasing from them.  The owner of the company, excited about the purchase agreed to drop every current account to just sell to Wal-Mart to meet their demad for the products.  A year went by and Wal-Mart regularly would not pay their bills on time.  The company's owner got tired of not being paid on time and told the accountant to call them and demand payment or they would stop selling to them.  The accountant advised against it but did what he was told.  Three hours later they received a fax thanking the company for their products but their services were no longer needed.  The compnay was bankrupt within 5 months.  Wal-Mart regularly does this to companies.  They bully their way into getting whatever terms they want from their suppliers.  The suppliers can't do much about it since Wal-Mart is a sure bet.  That is if you can afford to go by Wal-Mart's terms.

Yea, well all of us customers are not bitchy either... Smiley
I like to stir it up... mix it up...find answers to problems that may not be apparent at first. From what I have read in many of your posts, you are alot like me... and more like you are needed in the corporation. What are the odds we could shake the shock waves all the way to the top, so the lackadaisical attitude would shake loose on the way down?
Call you local Dallas penisaur today and tell them to look up the site. Maybe we can get one of them to start posting and passing the buck to someone else!
