I can understand cutting hours.  On Ft Drum most of our customers are deployed right now and the economy isnt so good.  The store where I work at has been cutting hours but then they go hire 4 more people.  WTF?  My coworkers are extremly upset.  Some who had been then there for at least a year have been hit the hardest.  These new people have their hours.  I dont know whats going to happen but I have feeling that this wont end well.  Many are talking about leaving.  We have a high turn over rate but theres no way aafes can hire a lot people in a short time.  This is aafes management at its finest

They're doing the same thing on my base.

Back before Thanksgiving, sales were down ... and they announced hours would be cut, but all of us RPT people stayed at 40 hours for several weeks.

In the two weeks or so leading up to Xmas, and continuing to the present time, they announce that sales are UP, but our hours are being scaled back.  I am at 35 hours for this week of inventory ... and they tell us we will go as low as 32 hours after the inventory is over.

You would think that a 32 hour work week would mean 8-hour shifts, working FOUR days a week ... at least we could get an extra day to sleep in and do our own thing.  But NOOOO.  They are coming up with some crazy scheduling mix of 6, 7, and 8 hour days, and still going to require us to show up for work 5 days a week.

Its bad enough they are shorting our paychecks ... the least they could do is give us an extra day off.

I can understand that AAFES management is running a business and need to balance their budget ... but why do they always have to reach into MY POCKET in order to make ends meet?  Aren't there other controllable expenses on the spreadsheet that can be trimmed?

I do understand cutting hours if the store is losing its customers, but techniquelly every Aafes employee signed a contract when joining the store.  In that contract it states what the range of hours you get if you're full time, part time, intermident, etc.  If they purposely go before your range of hours it is a breach of contract and you can talk to HR about or store manager.  If the problem is not solved then continue going up the chain until someone pays attention to the problem.
Another thing that Fort Drum managers like to do is intimidate employees.  Don't let that happen.  If they do then they are abusing their position which is a BIG BIG NO NO!!!  You can report them to their boss.

If one is full time, technically that means 35-40 hours. However, if you go below 40 hours, you lose the benefits that go with full-time like retirement and the heavy-duty life insurance.  Therefore, even the EOP says not to cut the hours of the RFT so that they do not lose said benefits.

The problem with the hours range is that the posted jobs will say one thing, but the EOP says another. 0-19 is INT, 20-34 is RPT and RFT is 35 and above. Therefore, when they decide to screw you with the hours, they pull out that EOP chart and NOT the job announcement you applied for. There are a lot of people out there who were hired for 25-34 hours per the announcements that are now working 20 because of a "realignment of work" (a sneaky way of doing a RIF without actually calling it one).

The hours also get cut because working out of category is supposed to mean your category gets changed after so many pay periods. AAFES likes to pretend they can't be held to that part of the labor laws.

You know why they cut our hours up in our already spread thin Power Zone?  Because one of my freaking coworkers complained that she wasn't getting as many hours as us.  Hell-o, she has a set schedule that SHE requested when she started working there.  I actually love working in the PZ, but I am so sick and tired of the bad apples hanging around, it makes the good ones what to get the heck outta dodge.

There is a little bit of that happening here. It is mostly with the INT folks though. A lot of folks were hired as temps during their holiday and so their hours have been cut. Probably a tactic to force some of them out. Its better just to cut them before their probation runs out.

We have a lot of RPT associates in my department and are under strict monitoring to keep them under 34 so that their status doesn't change to RFT. Rarely do you get complaints about extra hours but you always here about it when hours are cut.

i agree i mean why not do 4 day 8 hour shifts some people can get a 2nd part time job but they may be afraid that when they need you to work longer shiftl like  40 hour weeks for example you cant work it due to having a 2nd job so they do shitty 6 or 7 hour shifts to keep you from doing that 2nd job thing.

How about the favorite trick. Schedule you to work 11am to 19:30. The only time to work a second job is overnight. My 12 to 20:30 shift is bad like this. Being my second job is only open from 7:30 to 21:00 Mon to Sat. And I live 20 miles from Post. My 2nd job is a little further away. I can only work on my days off.

Don't underestimate people's knowledge base.

Oh, I forget! That is a rule with AAFES management.
