does anyone know of cases where an AAFES retirement-eligible employee who screwed up was allowed to retire in lieu of termination?  I'm trying to help a former AAFES employee who was not allowed to retire, and I'm wondering how consistent her treatment was in comparison with other employees.

Classic country song.  "I´ve got friends in low places."  Unless your friend has really good contacts or super lawyers, he can forget it.  Aafes is a tighter brotherhood than the KKK.

Mike Beverly, Jim Winters, Barry Gordon, Marilyn Iverson, Bob Bohn (sp?).... The list is very long--IF you are management. Those people got away with just about everything but murder. I personally watched GMs go home with full pension and benefits after having about a million harassment and/or theft charges filed against them. One of my former managers actually struck an employee on the sales floor. They transferred that person, who just recently retired.

On the other hand, if you are an hourly, they like to pretend you are the worst criminal this side of Charles Manson, even if it was a matter of a few cents or a paperwork error.

Tell her to screw AAFES and go on with her life, retirement or termination.  They are the biggest bunch of hypocrites allowed to walk the earth.  While this does not apply to all managers, there are some gloryhounds who would not know a regulation if it hit them in the face.

She should be thankful that you are trying to help her, because she is probably being vilified throughout the company as we write these comments and any friends that she had will run from her like she has the plague.

Like Dis said,  the list is long and continuous of those allowed to totally screw up and leave AAFES without disciplinary action being taken against them.  I wonder how many of the HQ morons would be terminated if Princess Stephanie Burns did not get what she wants and decides to play the scorned victim.  She has taken the express route to the top and she must have real skills on her back, because she can't manage worth a damn. Fitting metaphor... as Manson actually never  KILLED anyone, but got a bunch of people to do it for him. AT least they were able to pin him with it- unlike the managers at AAFES.

Yeah, there are a lot more out there. It's an ongoing thing. You can be sure that if a retirement is sudden and/or secret, there is a story behind it.

The sad thing with some of those people I mentioned is that they now work with AAFES as contractors or in different agencies, still hosing people.
