Really?

I think that you need to go back to "managing" whatever it is you are nominally in charge of and leave this forum to the adults.

Yep...a management troll, for sure. To be sure, I have likely retired more brain cells than you ever will possess.

We have discussed the other  "_______ sucks" sites before. However, this one is about AAFES, so your original post is a "non-swimmer".

This site does NOT run aafes_sucks.com, nor any other variation.
I was offered by someone to buy this url from me a few weeks after I bought it. But this and my blog are the only sites I run.
I don;t need all the URLs in the world - this site kind of took off on it's own. Only thing that floored me was I was getting more of my traffic from employees than customers.

Actually No…  But I am a customer that realizes the “Facts” about AAFES before posting 482 messages without really knowing what I am talking about..

For example…

FACTS:

AAFES has been around since 1895.

Any profit AAFES makes is returned to “us” the “Customers”, the “Share Holders”… In the form of MWR money.    Yes you heard right… You the customers of AAFES are also in a sense the Share Holders that benefit from any profits AAFES makes.

I know of no other retail organization that would agree to return any and all profits they make from sales to military personal(active and retired) and their families..
Just go ask Wal-Mart or Target if they would agree to this and they would laugh you out of their office..

I know of no other retail organization that would agree to keep stores open that are not making a profit but only for the purpose of making sure that military personal  in that area are serviced..  Yes you heard right..  Keep stores open that make little or negative profit..

I know of no other retail organization that would agree to go into War zones and set up stores at a moment’s notice..  (Again knowing they could not make a profit).   Also on a side note most people don’t realize that a lot of times AAFES loses money when “They Go Where You go”….  Yet they still go…

In its 115 year history, AAFES has lost 3 employees that were deployed to War Zones( 2 in the last 10 years).

AAFES Exec management pay is capped.. Yup you heard right.. In this day in age where CEO’s make 20 million plus a year, the AAFES top management positions probably make less then your average experienced Wal-Mart store GM’s.   Go ask your Wal Mart, Target, Or Costco Exec management if they would work for the same kind of pay…  Again, you would get laughed out of their offices..

Is AAFES 100% perfect and their prices always the lowest???  No not always…  But I know for sure there are times when I am shopping at Wal Mart or Costco and their prices are higher then the AAFES price..   It’s like shopping “Anywhere”….  You have to watch the prices of what you are shopping for..  But I know for a fact I have gotten some really good deals down through the years shopping at the BX.  And I realize that over time, I benefit from shopping at AAFES.

So my guess is that if you could get Wal Mart, or Target or Costco to agree to doing business with the military minus making a profit (Which they would never agree to)  you same people moaning here would be on a new web site moaning about the Wal Mart stores on base…

You are obviously not a NORMAL customer, more likely the spouse of a manager in this wonderful company.  Your facts are very impressive, but Aafes does not give everything back.  They pledge 15 percent to MWR and supposedly use any leftover profit for upgrades and new facilities.  As far as shareholders go, many of the people that post on here are employees.  Walmart, Cosco, and most other major retailers offer their employees stock options or profit sharing.  Not so with Aafes.  Its true that they have places that lose money to serve the troops, but they make it up tenfold in other areas.  It´s supposed to be non-profit, so they get by not paying taxes.  The prices should be much lower than they are compared to other retailers. As far as a GM from one of the other companies working for that pay?  If you mention the fact that his housing is paid extra, you might have a lot of takers.

Just a postscript,  None of the other Major retailers have a chance for this market because of Aafes paid lawyers, who they seem to have a lot of money for.  Personally I see world peace coming in the next ten years.  Then there will be no need for militaries, it will all be electronic.  WTF are you going to do then, Aafes?

I love educating the misinformed…

Lets continue this lesson..

Facts

Actually no its not capped at 15%...  Nice try but I believe you just pulled that number out of the air to sound like you know what your talking about..
What Actually happens is that after all operating costs(which includes upgrades to stores on base and new stores) are deducted from Earnings, whatever is left(Not 15% of it…  100% of it) is returned to us the customers.
For example, Over just the last 5 years AAFES has returned back to its customer over 200 million.

AAFES is audited by outside accounting firms each year just like any other publically held company…

LOL  Housing for the EXEC management???  Not sure where you got that from but again figure you pulled it out of the air..
There is NO housing provided for anyone (From the CEO to the janitor).   The ONLY housing that is provided is when AAFES employees deploy.

AAFES has no high paid Lawyers…  LOL…  As stated, all pay is capped… Yes even the lawyers that work for AAFES..   Basically the same pay scale the military uses…

While it is true AAFES does not offer any stock options to its Employees (By Law they cant by the way), they do offer one of the best retirement pension programs of any company in the world…  Including “Paid up Insurance” once you retire..  What does Paid up Insurance mean???  Once you retire, you and your spouse(if you are married) have Insurance the rest of your life and you pay NO premiums..

Another little know fact most people don’t know or realize…  AAFES is self sufficient..    What does this mean?  It means AAFES receives NO tax payers dollars to run AAFES..  AAFES pays ALL its on bills from its earnings…(And then as stated gives the profits back)

Oh and  "World Peace withing 10 years"....   LOL..  When Pigs fly...

Anyway class dismissed for today…. But I could go on and on…

Until the next lesson remember boys and girls
As John Adams said….. “Facts are such stubborn things”

Wow, all those dazzling "facts" and AAFES is still hated by the military.

You guys had better milk the cash cow in Iraq for all its worth, because when that "war" ends you will see those "profits" drop faster than AAFES can transfer a worthless manager.

Afghanistan will not be so lucrative, because the commander has put you guys on notice and you will not be able to drain the soldiers there like you have in Iraq.

You only have Europe to gain any meaningful earnings,  because stateside AAFES is a joke.

Perhaps a couple of items may need correction.

The paid insurance for life for retirees was discontinued in 1998 except for those working already and they were grandfathered in.

There are some good benefits for Full time...but there is an awfully large chunk of the work force who are either RPT or INT..and they won't get to retire...just wave good bye.
