I have spent many years with AAFES and although I bellyache about the place .. part of the reason I stay are the long term employees. We get along as a large extended family. They can be like a favorite Aunt or the dreaded cousin, each has it's on place ...
I can honestly say I have never seen many of the activities done by managers that I have read about, ( shopping out of the warehouse, verbally abusive, putting out promo before given date etc ...) Most of my management team bend over backwards for their customers, sometimes too far. It's far from perfect, but I have worked in worse places.
At least we get along for the most part, without too much Drama . I do believe it reflects in our store, I have been told by many retirees passing through our area, we are the most friendly base they'd been to.
We know we can't fix all of Corp. decisions and demands .. we try to do the best we can with what we've got . If that means speeding you through the tests then so be it ..
in some ways I feel lucky, we do have our fair share of back stabbing and poor decision making, for the most part it's short lived, we try and act as grown ups and move on from it .
We miss the ones that have moved on and try hard to welcome the Newbies .. I am glad if I have to work for AAfes at least it's with this crew.
