How can I get out of "Ops Squad"?
« on: July 07, 2010, 07:41:17 PM »
Hi all. Just wonderring if anyone has any ideas on How to Escape "Ops Squad"?  I have Tried applying to other jobs over the last 2 years. They do one of the following everytime, Cancel the position, Cancel my application, Or tell me I am not qualified. Recently I applied to a PZ position. Countless times I had to cover that Dept. Or asked to keep an eye on the new hires. When they cant answer the question, they ask me.  Guess what? I was Denied. I have even applied to Supervisor positions. At my facility the White male is discriminated against. They will hire a girl off the street before they promote any white males. All the Managers are women. All but one of the Supervisors are Women/Girls. The only reason is he was transfered in from another facility.

I am actually tempted to use that as a reason on my Resignation form. When I finally had enough and leave. 2 1/2 years and getting nowheres fast.

 Thanks

It was not a matter of not being qualified. When I am there and they need help, I am the one they send.

There are so many factors and Managment does have the final call. I've seen people get mad because they wouldn't get moved but at the same time, they didn't work worth a darn. I'm not saying this is your case so don't get upset. I've also seen good people get overlooked because management had already picked/promised someone and is just waiting though procedure (which is completely wrong!) Take a look around you, how often do your peer's get moved? Does this just seem to be a problem for you, or for several?

A lot of people in AAFES never step up and complain because they feel it doesn't do any good, but those same people/places never tried either. Try to contact your AFGE local (Union) and talk with them, perhaps there is a problem that they are aware of, but can't do anything until they have a complaint. You could also always contact the EEO and speak with the councilor about filing a grievance. Nothing is official and leaves the room until you say so, and you can request to remain anonymous (though eventually something may give you away).

Phone number's for both SHOULD! be located on a board in or near the break room, and if it isn't let me know! PLEASE!!!. If not , my e-mail is on file here, send me your location and I can find out who your options are for the EEO and AFGE local for you if needed. I'm a Union Stewart at my location and would like you help you get on the right track.

I did try complaining to the local AFGE rep. Found it pointless. They only seemed to care about the C&T (Warehouse Workers). The EEO Officer agreed with me. He doesnt work in my facility. My complaints go back before they used me as "Supervisor" for 4 1/2 months. Without actually promoting me.
My observation (In my facility) is that Males are discriminated against. Management will hire a girl off the street before promoting any Male employee to the position. The SM, ASMs, SAMs are all women. Along with all but one Supervisor. Who transfered in from Germany. All the RAs, ICAs are women. The only Male in authority runs the Warehouse.

It just gets better. I recently applied to a couple of other RPT jobs. They were promptly Closed. Never got interviewed. And check this out. All members of OPS got an Award Except me. They even gave on to the Receptionist. The one who was a Manager until she got busted down for alcoholic problems.
I would just quit. Cant afford to. My other job is "FT" and I only get about 35 hrs week. Barely enough to cover the Rent, Utilities, Etc. The Only reason I put up with the Discrimination.

You have an EEO complaint for certain, but you would be better served to take it OUTSIDE of AAFES because 99.8% of the complaints get shelved. Get the DOL involved, if you have to.

You do have a grievance about the way the jobs are being posted. The contract (Article 19) says a posting must be up for five calendar days. Your rep should be asking for the rankings lists if you file a grievance. But, as Tim said, management does have hire/assign/fire rights under federal law. They, unfortunately, can keep turning down people till they get their BFF's name on the list. I saw that happen once where a manager kept turning down the women on a roster for six months. He finally convinced some guy to apply and then promptly hired that guy. Every single woman on the roster filed an EEO and a couple did win their cases.

Both the manager and the guy he hired got nabbed for theft later. The manager was punished, but allowed to stay on and is now a GM. His buddy quit before they could charge him and now works as a manager in fast food somewhere.
