my aafes experience... neeeeed advice, please :)
« on: July 19, 2010, 01:28:35 PM »
to make an incredibly long story short, i started working for aafes as a temp facility manager because i was pcsing so soon after being hired. they found a permanent facility manager and i began training it. she knows nothing. at all. about this facility. i'm training her. her ignorance is adorable. i treat her like an equal, give automatic respect. i feel this is the bullshit aafes way of doing things. she has some sort of resentment towards me  because all other employees come to me for questions and concerns... rightfully so. i'm literally the only person who has any idea what is going on. i've been running a facility like this with another compay for 5 years. she's still in training. onward--i go out of town, and prepare her for a major meeting. i prep her to the fullest. apparently, something goes awry and she tries to counsel me when i get back. i go ballistic, she rescinds the written counsel, we both apologize and move forward. one night, i am closing up shop, do a stellar job and come in the next morning to a question about the door being unlocked/opened and some lp investigation is being launched with me being the main focus. hold up. say what? i locked everything and closed everything. there are witnesses. please let me see the camera action on this. camera action shows me closing and locking. okay. i have meniere's disease and about 15 minutes later, being to pass out and become affected by it. this is in my file. i was hired with this in my file. discriminating based on this illness would be illegal, right? next day, i find out she is going to terminate me. i have no idea why. no one else does either. i point that it's primarily because i'm temporary and she feels threatened by my knowledge. instead of using it to her advantage, she's  hanging herself with it. nevertheless, i get forwarded the physical separation letter. i call hr and resign. immediately. upon resignation, i was told by hr to bring my things by on monday (the day is a friday) because of my illness. sweet. i'll get my husband to do it. manager harasses me with a phone call, her husband calls, a foreman calls, then there are 3 blocked calls. on the 4th blocked call, we find out it is lp. lp asking for my things. we were actually picking up meds and told the lp lady we weren't home and we were already told to bring the things in monday, so she said okay. that's fine. bring it in monday. we get home and she is waiting on our doorstep (lp lady). is this legal? should lp have access to your address after you've resigned? do they have the jurisdiction and right to harass you at home after they have explicitly stated you could turn your things in monday? do they have to have security forces escort them? anyone else gone through this?

Trust me, they did you a favor.  The more you would have hung around, the more crap they would have come up with against you.  This would have only made it worse.  LP has no right to come to your residence, but you do have the right to protect your residence from harassment.

AAFES always has had an art form of creating a "situation" to eliminate those who do not agree or condone their corrupt ways.

I personally was accused of giving an unauthorized discount to a customer, but when I showed the asswipes at AAFES proof that I was not even in the state on the day of the incident that's when the bullshit bandwagon got under way.

AAFES management consist of a bunch of drunks and perverts who deserve each other, because no real company would even give them a second look.

Overall, just go on with your life, you do not need AAFES and their BS.

Yeah, i've had a few days to mull over the situation. I have an impeccable work history and talked to my last manager before AAFES and she was advising me to go back to the company I came from when I PCS (she managed me with this company) and forget AAFES ever happened. She herself warned me that AAFES is trouble and I chose to part ways with a wonderful company with the lure of 80 cents more. Hahaha. What an idiot I was. AAFES was the worst work experience of my life.

I was extremely vocal about the daily injustices. The "you've worked over 8 hours and I'm supposed to pay you OT, but if I do, I get my arse chewed out, so I'm just going to put it on another day for you, okay? Okay." I believed in paying people for what they worked whether I had to pay for the consequences of my own oversight of not seeing the OT. Asking foreman to stay 4 extra hours off the clock, forgetting people's time... and putting it in the computer. Oh God, time and pay were always jacked up EVERY week. At LEAST 2-3 people had issues every time we got paid. I always spoke up about it at HR. I got loud and obnoxious and demanded them fix it.

My pay was messed up the entire time I was there. I had to write an email detailing exactly where every dollar went and the HR people argued with me about the amount I was supposed to get. The fact that i had to do simple math irritated me, but at least it got me my money finally. They owed me around $800 total and told me i was only supposed to get around $300. Yeahhh, huuuuuge difference. The fact that I learned fast to get everything in writing may have been my downfall as well. I carried a notebook and pen everywhere and every conversation took notes and requested a signature of the other person.

So, you're right... they did do me a favor. I still want to do something in regards to the harassment of coming to my house, but honestly... I just want to get the hell out of this state and PCS. I have exactly 30 days left. I will forever boycott AAFES and their illegal, discriminatory practices.

I smell a lawsuit... In the very least, I would talk to legal, raise all sorts of hell and make sure an LP was right next to you in the unemployment line.

Definitely a call I would make to HQ. If the LP is gonna do it to you, she is gonna do it to you, she obviously knows nothing about boundaries, and that kind of behavior is grounds for all kinds of trouble.

Most of AAFES LP personnel are useless.  They sit around all day in their little dark corners of the store looking at women's anatomies all day, while someone is actually "STEALING" merchandise right next to women they are drooling over.  I know this because I have seen it first hand and I thought the pervert should have been fired for looking at a female breastfeeding and he was zooming in with the camera for a tighter shot.  I told management, but they blew it off as usual.

The females are no better, because most of the ones I have encountered with AAFES are good old trailer trash with a title.  They really do think they are cops and are above reproach.

Forget a lawsuit, AAFES is the best when it comes to covering sh*t up.  They never lose most legal actions.  HQ condones the behavior, so they are of no help either.

Put AAFES in your rearview mirror and never look back.

Get the number, go to a pay phone and get someone you know and trust to make the call for you. Write them a script if you have to. That is what we tell all our people to do to protect themselves because no one wants to get in trouble or splattered by the spit hitting the fan.

I've just found this site as400-news.com, could I just borrow the technical
articles from the site or do I need special permission?. I am doing a  project for school.

Legal is NOT going to help you if  you are not an AD spouse. In most cases, they cannot even represent you unless they hold their licenses in the same state as where you are.

EEO cases do occasionally get won. I know--I won one for someone as part of a grievance/EEO combo.
