AAFES deployment

I heard a few things about going down range about aafes.. I thought I would question it here... Not that I don't think its true.. but just for reasurance..
when going downrange with aafes.. you get a temp. promotion to Manager so you will earn a salary so they won't give you over pay.. you end of working on average 80 hours a week. Only paid for about 40 of them then only about 10 hours of overtime.. Some shit like that correct? the salaried rate is $450 a week.. also the hazard pay is only givin to you if you have been in the area for more then 60 days. is this true? what other ways do aafes screw the employee? Honestly the employee probably have it worse then the customer/service member. We don't get any kind of deals discount or any benifets really. if something goes on sell its looked down upon if we buy it.. Its no good on either side. They are more worried about employee trying to get theres then they are anything else it seems. THey always have ways around there own system to screw the worker.. For example when you start working for aafes you get brought on a [INT] that means they work you when they want and you get nothing out of it other then regular pay.. Intermittent, according to the AAFES associate handbook, is only suppose to work 0-32 hours a week. They tell you at the HRO office if you work 7consecuative days of if you work regularly 40 hours a week then tell your manager that you are being misused and you should be promoted to a higher status. Well my first day of work with aafes was on a Tue. I didn't get a day off until the next wed. 8 days later. I told a manager about it they kinda just laughed at me. I work also 10pm to 6am. 5 days a week. Thats 40 hours a week. I've not had less since I started working. I told my manager.. They told me that as an [INT] they can work you 40 hours a week for 6 weeks then they have to take you back down to the regular 34 hour max work week. But here is what they didn't tell me. THey can work you 40 hours a week for 6 weeks. Then they have to bring you back down to 34 max a week. BUt they only have to do that for 1 week. So you work 6 weeks 40 hours then cut 6 hours for 1 week just to start back a 40 hour work week again. about the pay.. If your considered part time then if you work more then 30 hours a week you get over time (I don't think aafes does that but I know any normal job back in the states operates that way) as an [int] you don't get paid over time if you work more then the assigned 34 hours a week. you have to work more then 40 hours a week to get it.. why would they do this.. Well ass an Intermittent the only benefits you get are. Holiday pay (only full time of temporary full time gets the Sunday premium I guess me giving up a day to go to church isn't as important.I do work every Sunday regardless of my religious preference. They never asked me either they just kinda put me on sundays.) also, shift differential (yay a whole 10% increase of my 7.15 an hour. I live in germany $7 isn't shit out here.) It seems the germans get paid more then us americans do.. Why do they rate more importance? Its so funny.. All in the back of our warehouse there are signs everywhere about "who stole my raise" and all kinda of other thinga about my no ones getting paid anything.. Well the answer on the poster is us employees. They say the ones who steal take away from every one else.. I don't have anything against the Germans. I met a lot since I been here they are a pretty cool poeple. But its the local nationals that make all the money.. Not saying they make a whole lot.. Just they make more then I do.. WHy they rate better... I don't know... maybe I should apply for citizen ship here. Maybe They'll treat me better. And sense I'll still be married to a service member I'll still get my privileges.. Actually speaking on that. THere is a LN that works with me.. She doesn't do anything. She calls out when ever she feels like it.. (about once everyother week) she can sit around in the back and not do anything for hours on end. THe managers will complain.. but not to her.. they don't tell her anything.. I work the graveyard shift.. 10pm to 6 am.. 30 minutes is automatically deducted out of my pay.. if I sit in the back for 30 minutes then I get yelled at.. THe store manager will come in and watch the cameras and start complaining and yelling and witting email about everyone on the night shift not doing there job.. so no I don't take my two 15 minute paid breaks nor do I get to enjoy a 30 minute non paid break. If i did they would probably have fired me... so those of you who have to shop there.. Yeah it can be stressfully. BUt just be glad you don't have to work there..

Maybe I can answer a few question, I will keep it short and sweet.
Deployment, yes you get promoted to 3A manager, that would be double your pay plus a few if our getting $7, yes it to control overtime cost, but you get 20 hrs per week overtime, whether you work it or not. Yes, some places you work longer. Danger Pay is paid after your there 24 hrs, that 60 day thing, is another pay bonus increase, but only after first tour, something like that. You can find more on the AAFES Intranet. Downrange, everyone is a voluntary. It's not as bad you think. Yes, some places are worse then others, but the people are great and the soldiers appreciate your service.
Intermittent hire is a way to control personnel cost. Here is the best thing you can do if you want to get the right answer. Ask to see EOP 55-10, this covers pay and benefits. It will tell you if what you been told are true or not. Then you have it in B&W. Your GM should have an open door policy if your manager is no help or talking out his/Her ASS.
LN....it’s the few bad ones, which make most US think they are all like that. Yes, they get paid more, but the history is, before the Euro was the D-mark, when the LN was paid in D-mark, they were the low cost person. Well that changed with the Euro, but man of man, do they get taxed to death, almost up to 50% of their gross pay. Plus their benefits go way back to the SOFA agreement. This is the same agreement, which keeps us from paying German fuel cost, no taxes on our products and use of the VAT form if a store takes it.
Hope I was able to help answer a few, you got to watch listen to the shit house lawyers. Plus, don't judge that manager, not all are like them, losers. However, since you now work for AAFES, you can apply for a new job and are priority for hiring, IN-HOUSE comes first, so look around if you’re not happy.

Wilder, only some of that is true, but deployment does NOT guarantee a promotion. Most are set up as temp slots, tis true, but when you get back, you go right back into your old grade and position with a pay cut. If you are killed over there (and there was an AAFES employee that died last year), then you get bupkis. Your life insurance excludes acts of war or misadventure in a war zone. But INTs only can get personal injury insurance anyway, so you KNOW they wouldn't get a dime no matter what.
As for the INT question, if you work at a NAGE location, then the contract clearly states you automatically promote after only a few pay periods of steady RPT/RFT work. The old AFGE contract had that same clause, but AAFES convinced some bimbo in the 1990s to drop it. Doesn't matter--if you are strictly civilian hire with no military affiliation, you fall under state and federal laws concerning category conversion. Nearly all states require it and federal labor law spells out quite clearly that INT should not be used as an alternative to hiring benefit employees and, if you can regularly schedule them, then you MUST convert them.
Some dingaling at HQ decided that law didn't mean AAFES.
But then, they also misinterpreted a DoD regulation to get out of paying COLAs and locality pay.... But then they will also tell you that DoD regs don't count for AAFES, either, even though AAFES is a DoD charter agency and is covered under all sorts of DoD regs.
Translated--AAFES cherry-picks what laws, regulations and directive they want to follow as long as they can twist it around.
